The Flat Belly Solution

the flatbelly solutionThe Flat Belly Solution is a weight loss book that is supposed to be able to help you understand which “metabolic type” you are, and then help you choose foods and workouts that will help you lose weight.

Because this weight loss program comes at a hefty price, we decided to research the Flat Belly Solution before we decided whether it was a good investment or not.

The Good

The book’s writer, Isabel De Los Rios, an exercise and lifestyle coach from New Jersey, does not make any unrealistic promises.

There are some weight loss programs that say they’ve figured out the magic pill for weight loss and you’ll never have to watch what you eat or get on the treadmill ever again. These products are lying to you. Even the best weight loss pill or program still requires you to make some lifestyle changes.

De Los Rios claims that her book can not only help you figure out which “metabolic type” you are, but she can then point you to which meals and exercises are best suited for your individual makeup.

Although we doubt her ability to pinpoint our unique needs, De Los Rios does make suggestions that might be beneficial for everyone. She doesn’t say that your unique diet is all sugar and no vegetables, rather she recommends that some people eat more protein than carbs, or vice versa.

The Bad

Even if De Los Rios does make some good suggestions here and there, her book is written kind of like a horoscope. The suggestions are made broadly and vaguely. She gives out nutritional information that is widely known and not worth paying for.

This isn’t surprising, however, given the fact that De Los Rios doesn’t have any other credentials other than the fact that her picture on the cover of her book makes it seem like she has a rockin’ body.

Because this can be attributed to genetics, airbrushing, or even a hired model, we would rather see a dietetics degree than a midriff.

The Skinny

Since there doesn’t seem to be any scientific proof to back up the Flat Belly Solution, we wouldn’t recommend this book.
