LeptinX is a supplement that is marketed by Vitamin Research Products, although it is manufactured by someone else. LeptinX is supposed to lower your leptin levels so that your appetite will be suppressed and you will eat less, causing you to lose more weight. However, if you know anything about leptin, that should surprise you that LeptinX wants to lower your leptin levels.

Discovered in 1994, leptin got its name from the Greek word leptos which means “thin.” This is because leptin is a protein hormone that works with the receptors in the hypothalamus to inhibit the appetite and tell you to stop eating. Generally speaking, higher leptin levels means that you feel full and satisfied all of the time, whereas lower levels leave you feeling hungry and craving more.

Now you may understand why we were hesitant when LeptinX said they were interested in lowering your levels of leptin. But, we think we might know the reason behind LeptinX’s madness.

The Good

Recently, researchers have noticed that a lot of obese people have surprisingly high levels of leptin on average. At first they could not explain how these people would have such high levels of leptin, yet such huge appetites.

After some time, it was concluded that these people must have built up a resistance to the leptin, much like people with Type II Diabetes have built up a resistance to insulin. LeptinX works on the theory that by lowering chronically high leptin levels, it will decrease any resistance.

The Bad

There is absolutely no scientific evidence to back this theory up. Not only is there no proof that lowering the leptin levels will decrease resistance, but after looking at LeptinX’s ingredients, we also have no confidence in its ability to do anything at all to leptin levels.

The Skinny

You shouldn’t buy a weight loss supplement that works entirely on an educated guess.
