Fat Bloc is a supplement designed by Ultimate Nutrition that is supposed to be able to turn all the fats you eat into compounds that are not able to be absorbed into the bloodstream—meaning that you could eat any fatty food you wanted and not have to worry about the old adage, “you are what you eat.”
How Does It Do It?
Actually, the theory behind Fat Bloc is quite simple. It is based on the ingredient chitosan which is a naturally occurring fiber derived from the complex sugar found in the shells of shrimp, crabs and other shellfish. Because of its net positive charge, chitosan is believed to be able to bind to the negatively charged fats and lipids, forming a molecule that is too large to pass through the intestinal wall. This would mean that all the calorie-laden fats you eat would simply pass through your digestive system without adding to your waistline.
Any Concerns?
Although this theory about chitosan sounds great and scientifically bound, there has been no research done to prove that it will help you lose weight. There have been studies conducted on a model of the stomach that show chitosan to interact with the oils there, but there haven’t been any to show that the oils are then indigestible. In fact, evidence shows that there was just as much oil in the subjects’ waste who were using fat inhibitors like Fat Bloc as there were in the subjects who were using the placebo. Meaning that there is very little chance it will help you lose weight.

Because of all the research that has been done on its main ingredient, we can’t say that we trust Fat Bloc to be able to do what it says it is able to do.
