Does Yoga Burn Fat

Yoga is one of the most popular weight loss methods and exercise methods in the country. It’s low impact, and like pilates, they claim it will shape your body, burn fat, burn calories, etc. They even have extreme yoga classes where apparently the moves further exert your body in burning calories and moreover, they turn up the heat in the room often to 80-100 degrees in some cases to induce more sweating.

But unfortunately, though creating more heat and a thermogenic effect in the body does burn fat, when you use a hot room for yoga, you are burning off water weight, which will quickly and easily come back and it is certainly not fat. This being said, when you use yoga, you are stretching your muscles. But when you do the moves, you are not actually getting your heart rate up, burning calories, burning fat, or anything else that would be related to cardio, which is the major thing necessary for fat burning.

So does yoga burn fat? No. Frankly it doesn’t. It is extremely relaxing, and I would recommend it for that. It stretches out the muscles, which is a good thing to avoid injuries while you are actually exercising. But even the intense yoga classes do not burn fat. Intense yoga is just more prolonged than regular yoga.

This all being said, you have to keep your hopes for yoga reasonable. Yoga is a good exercise in terms of helping you to better prepare for other exercises. But does yoga burn fat? There is no possibility of that, even in a largely heated room.
